The multi-alarm fire happened at a residence in Montrose on the night of Sunday, Jan. 15 just before 9 p.m. and was made worse by wind, which also resulted in numerous brush fires around the home as well, according to the Millwood Fire Company No. 1.
Eventually, the limited water supply from the hydrants that the firefighters were working with was not enough to put out the flames, and more tankers from numerous fire departments were brought to the scene.
Once the clock struck midnight, firefighters also used ladders to provide aerial support to the fire, focusing water on hot spots throughout the heavily damaged home. After several hours of hard work, the fire was finally put out, although not without a rekindling at around 4:30 a.m.
Luckily, the home's occupants were able to escape without injuries, and no first responders were harmed as a result of the blaze.
Ultimately, firefighters from the Millwood, Montrose, Buchanan, Verplanck, Lake Mohegan, Ossining, Continental Village, Croton-on-Hudson, Yorktown Heights, Bedford Hills, and Pocantico Hills fire departments worked to put the fire out.
